Re: McCarthy Abusive Thread !!
How can you have an enforcer in the modern game, he'd get sent off every week. Every foul is a booking and players are getting sent off for not even making contact...joke game these days. Can't even watch it half the time

Re: McCarthy Abusive Thread !!
I agree we are lacking an enforcer or two

In Billy Bonds day we also had the much maligned Geoff Pike to cover the backs of our skilful players

I often noticed Bonzo & Pike in conversation

When Bonzo was walking a tight line you could tell Pike was being given the enforcer job

Re: McCarthy Abusive Thread !!
Yes Ted Bonzo would have sorted him out used to look after Pat Holland as if he was his son.

We are lacking a tough tackling leader type Captain, we could do with Bonzo

Re: McCarthy Abusive Thread !!
The way the match was going the ref was letting everything go in the first half so McCarthy chanced his arm knowing the ref was weak. Our problem is we haven't got anybody that can dish it back.

Sir Alf too right and judging by his ludicrous comments neither has Northern Sold

Still I think his comments are really about him playing up to his self proclaimed nawty image

Re: McCarthy Abusive Thread !!
Ref saw that the heel of Mccarthy's boot touched the ball and bottled it. Back in my playing heyday 80s and 90s (no not the 1890s ;-) ), we used to systematically foul the nippy, dangerous or skilful players. Ok it was a few levels down from the Professional game but that was what you did if the manager knew about a danger man etc. It was a tactic. What we do not know is if the manager made it clear to stop Payet whatever it takes. Mccarthy took advantage of the one thing that is still open to interpretation and relies on a ref to have played the game. I broke my leg twice when I played. Once was a reckless challenge where the player came in studs high and once like Payets where my legs got trapped under the tackle. In both cases it was my studs or boots getting stuck that prevented the leg being able to move. That is what the follow through is about. Putting the weight of the body on a leg where the foot is unable to move.

Obviou sto anyone who has played the game even at the lowest levels. Most refs haven't.

Re: McCarthy Abusive Thread !!
Not when they had the Holy Trinity of Alan Ball, Howard Kendall and Colin Harvey as their midfield, they were quite a skillful team in those days, now they're a bunch of clogging cunts that would have Don Revie turning up his nose at

They've always been like that.

Re: McCarthy Abusive Thread !!
Everton have a few 'stoppers' and McCarthy is one of them. Fucking dirty cunts when it comes to it they are. Naismith is another dirty, spiteful little cunt when he fancies it. Osman is another, he puts himself about often going over the line. Gareth Barry is not prone to going over the line either. All a bunch of dirty cunts.
